Alternative Suction Grates

Pool Design article by Skip Phillips, SWD Master, GENESIS® Ambassador & Co-Founder

One of our industry’s challenges has been on how to comply with the tenants of the Federal V.G.B. Act addressing suction entrapment, but still considering the cosmetics of the vessel. As GENESIS® has found in the past, if you want a solution, whether it be design and construction education, or developing innovative products, you’ll have to do it yourself.

With that in mind, enclosed are examples of V.G.B. compliant slot suction outlets that not only exceed the criteria of the Federal mandate, but are essentially invisible. Each project must be certified by an engineer for compliance and Dave Peterson at Watershape Consulting has worked with us on insuring a safe and attractive outcome.

By utilizing multiple, cross connected slot drains that can accept the chosen veneers in the tray, the result is the absence of the hideous enlarged plastic grates this industry has force fed to us.
