CONSTRUCTION 105: Basic Tile & Coping

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss proper coping and tile installation techniques, and the importance of the tile/coping interface
  • Surface preparation, floating techniques, waterproofing

  • Designing and using jigs and templates for more complex projects
  • Installation methods following best practices and current industry standards
  • When and how to protect your installation environment
  • The importance of proper material selection for submerged applications
  • Cure periods prior submerging tile assemblies and Water chemistry parameters


This class is designed as an overview of basic coping and tile installation as well as an introduction to the more complex world of glass tile, including all tile pools. Students will be exposed to installation methods ranging from old world time tested techniques to the most current and innovative systems on the market today.
