- Discuss the basic physics of water including pressure, flow, velocity, energy, and how these parameters are used to design mechanical systems.
- Explain how simple charts and graphs can be used to size plumbing and equipment.
- Explain efficient ways to design and plumb pools, spas, and water features.
- List the details to successful plumbing installation that will keep the equipment pad layout accurate and straight.
Intro to Pool Hydraulics and Plumbing will present students to the concepts of water pressure, pressure loss, and flow conditions in pipe. The purpose of this class is to educate swimming pool builders in the basics of swimming pool hydraulics – the science, particularly the physics of water. This course provides details to newcomers to the profession as well as reviews the fundamentals for the established pool builder.

Brannon began his career in public works, beginning with the Cities of Irving and Tyler, Texas before founding The Brannon Corporation. He continues to specialize in public works projects, but the firm has carved out an aquatic niche using their expertise in water conveyance and treatment and structural design. Brannon is registered in 23 states as a licensed professional engineer. Now in semi-retirement from the engineering consulting business. 50 years total in engineering and 40 years in aquatics, he keeps himself busy sharing his experiences by writing and training engineers and contractors in the design and construction of aquatic facilities from public fountains, to splash pads, water parks, competition venues, lakes and streams, and private pools. He continues as a consultant to various construction management companies, hotels and resorts, municipalities, and branches of the U.S. Department of Defense.

There is a reoccurring issue of cementitious pool surfaces within our industry. Industry expert, Randy Dukes will provide you with visual issues of the more predominant discolorations, degradation, delamination, and start-up issues happening. Randy will review surface preparations for both new construction and remodeling with plausible prevention of bond failure issues discussion. Additional topics will include sound technical surface application procedures, specific water balance targets and maintenance procedures.

Dukes is regarded as one of the foremost authorities in the pool plaster industry relating to deterioration, discoloration, and staining phenomenon that are commonly associated with cement-based pool coatings.
